The First Minister of Scotland, Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP, will host the 34th British-Irish Council Summit meeting this week. This is following the decision agreed by all eight Minister Administrations in light of the Covid-19 situation, to postpone the 34th Summit originally scheduled for the middle of this year.  It will be the fifth time the BIC Summit has been hosted by the Scottish Government. The meeting will be attended by leaders and ministers from the Council’s Member Administrations.

The main discussion topic at the summit will be the Economic Recovery from Covid-19.

It has been agreed to postpone the Summit level meeting of the British-Irish Council which was due to be hosted by the Scottish Government this month. This decision was taken in light of the unprecedented circumstances created by the current Covid-19 situation which has affected all eight of the Council’s Member Administrations. Officials from across all eight administrations continue to remain active in progressing the work of the Council through remote working and virtual meetings.

The British-Irish Council (BIC) held its 33rd Summit meeting today hosted by the Irish Government. The heads of delegation were welcomed to Dublin by An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD.
