Third BIC Energy Ministerial hosted by the Government of Jersey

The British-Irish Council Energy work sector held its third Ministerial meeting today, jointly chaired by Michael Matheson MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport, Scottish Government and Rt Hon Greg Hands MP, Minister of State for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change, UK Government. The meeting was held virtually.

 

This Ministerial meeting brought together Ministers with responsibility for Energy policy to consider how the eight Member Administrations can continue to work together to address shared challenges such a climate change, energy efficiency and energy security. Ministers discussed their joint ambitions to transition to a low carbon future, noting developments in energy policy across the Member Administrations, and Ministers noted particularly the importance of decarbonising heat, offshore renewables (including wind, marine, grid and interconnection), new and emerging technologies (including hydrogen and CCUS), and local and community energy.

 

Ministers also discussed the BIC event at COP26, the key outcomes from COP26 for each administration, and their relevance to the Energy work sector.
