Third BIC Energy Ministerial to be hosted by the Government of Jersey

03 February 2022

This week, the British-Irish Council Energy work sector will hold its third Ministerial meeting, hosted by the Government of Jersey.  The meeting will be held virtually.

Since the last ministerial meeting, officials from the Energy work sector have shared learning and experiences through a number of meetings and site visits across Member Administrations. The work sector has remained actively engaged throughout the pandemic, with officials meeting virtually to share approaches, progress the work of the Council, and to identify the issues of ongoing mutual interest.

At the meeting, Ministers will consider shared challenges faced by all Member Administrations, including the threat of climate change, the desire to make greater progress in energy efficiency, and the need to ensure energy security. Ministers will also consider and agree a plan for the future focus of the work sector over the next three years, addressing the areas of decarbonising heat, offshore renewables (including wind, marine, grid and interconnection), new and emerging technologies (including hydrogen and CCUS), and local and community energy.

The meeting will be jointly chaired by Michael Matheson MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport, Scottish Government and Rt Hon Greg Hands MP, Minister of State for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change, UK Government.
