The First Minister of Scotland, the Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP, hosted the twenty-sixth Summit meeting of the British-Irish Council in Glasgow today. The meeting was attended by Heads of Administration and Ministers from the eight BIC Member Administrations: the Irish and UK Governments; the devolved administrations of the Welsh Government and Northern Ireland Executive; and the Governments of the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.

The British-Irish Council Secretariat is pleased to announce the publication of its Annual Report for 2015 which details the work carried out by the Council.

The previous year saw two Summits hosted by the Irish and UK Governments, two Ministerial meetings in Edinburgh, one in Jersey and a Seminar on Indigenous, Minority and Lesser-used Languages in Dublin. In addition, all twelve Council work sectors were engaged in an active programme of collaboration throughout the year.

The BIC Secretariat organised a seminar in Belfast on 24-25 February 2016 to engage government stakeholders in considering how the BIC can evolve in the years ahead.

Sixty officials attended the seminar from across the eight BIC member administrations including many Northern Ireland Executive work sector members. Speakers from across government shared their views on BIC, on parallel institutions and on the developments in relationships across these islands, providing a context and prompt for subsequent discussion among officials.
