British-Irish Council Housing Ministers Meet in London

30 October 2013

British-Irish Council Housing Ministers met in London today.  The meeting was chaired by Nelson McCausland, MLA, Northern Ireland’s Minister for Social Development and hosted by the new UK Housing Minister Kris Hopkins MP.

As well as sharing information on the housing market conditions in the eight BIC Administrations jurisdictions, Ministers exchanged views on increasing housing supply, in particular on issues of access to funding and affordability.  Ministers received a presentation on this critical area from the leading housing economist Professor Christine Whitehead of the London School of Economics.  The Council has a strong focus on the issue of youth employment and Ministers looked at how the housing sector can generate jobs for young people and asked their officials to share policy initiatives and innovations on this critical issue.
