The British-Irish Council’s Demography work sector held a Ministerial meeting in Edinburgh today. The meeting was hosted and chaired by Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs on behalf of the Scottish Government.
The meeting was attended by all eight BIC Member Administrations: the UK and Irish Governments, the Devolved Administrations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Governments of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
The full communique from the meeting can be viewed here.
The meeting focused on a report prepared by the work sector looking at the policy implications of Population-Ageing-Society. Ministers engaged in detailed discussion of the findings through a Rapid Reflection discussion facilitated by the Scottish Government. They noted that through its work the group has identified a set of challenges which may have policy implications for work being taken forward in other Council workstreams and asked that these matters be noitfied to the relevant BIC work sectors.
